15. Implantation of Intrathecal Catheter & Implanted Pump for Spinal Infusion:
In this particular procedure, a fine tubing is inserted and implanted into the spinal canal by means of a very small incision in the spinal region by Dr. Vengurlekar. The tubing is then tunneled under the skin of the abdominal wall and a small reservoir is then implanted under the skin and then connected to this tubing, so that a continuous drippage of medication can be facilitated in the region of the nerves, which are causing excruciating pain. The reservoir usually needs to be refilled with medication every 40-60 days in the office by Dr. Vengurlekar.
16. Insertion & Implantation of spinal cord stimulator & pulse generator: This technique is utilized for certain nerve disorders in which electrodes are positioned in close contact with nerve tracts in the spinal cord. These electrodes are implanted surgically, by a small incision by Dr. Vengurlekar over the spinal canal and electrode leads are connected to a battery and a generator so that electrical impulses can be generated at the settings which are modified and set by Dr. Vengurlekar.
17. Trigger Point Injections: Once again, Dr. Vengurlekar does not believe in Trigger Point therapy. An occasional Trigger Point Injection may be recommended for patients with an acute muscle spasm in a certain part of the body, but repeated injections have many dangers, are imprecise, and not scientific, and do not belong in the purview of a professional who specializes in modern techniques in interventional pain management, in today’s day and age.
18. Cryoablation:
In this procedure, special probes are inserted into the peripheral nerves. Temperatures at and below zero degrees centigrade are achieved to freeze certain nerve tissue. The applications of these procedures have become very limited with newer therapies being evolved.
19. Epiduroscopy:
In this technique, a very fine telescope is inserted in the spinal canal to visualize scar tissue, etc. Therapeutic accuracy of this procedure has not been proven and has rapidly fallen out of practice.
Premier Pain Institute stands for Diagnostic Ability, Knowledge, Integrity and Taking Care of Patients. From the age of 16 years old, Dr. Vengurlekar has devoted his life to achieving that goal.
